Hima Cement enters supply deal with Chinese firm

KAMPALA-Uganda-- China  Communication Constriction Company ( CCCC)has signed a Memorandum of  Understanding with Hima  Cement  Ltd, that will see  the cement  producer  supplying cement   to the Chinese firm.

The Hima Cement and CCCC partnership will specifically focus on the supply of cement to three major CCCC contracted projects, by Government of Uganda that include the upgrading and Expansion of the Entebbe International Airport, Mubende –Kakumiro –Kagadi Road and the up grading of Soroti –Moroto road network in Eastern Uganda.

“As cement company we are delighted to sign the deal.  This will compel us to invest more in technologies which will enable us to produce quality construction materials that meets international standards,” said Allan Ssemakula, the Commercial Director, Hima Cement.

As per the MoU, Hima Cement will supply 30,000 tons of cement to the Entebbe Airport expansion project for five years, 60,000 (3 years) and 30,000 (3 years) for the Mubende-Kakumiro-Kagadi road  and Soroti-Moroto Road Projects respectively. 

Ssemakula said the deal will give them competence and technical capacity needed to undertake infrastructure projects of any nature.

Apart from partnering with the Chinese’s based construction firm in the supply of construction inputs Ssemakula said the two entities are to collaborate beyond cement supply but also in the Research and technology Development. 

CCCC Country Manager Joseph Zheng Biao said the deal will enable the construction company to support government policy of Buy Uganda Build Uganda.

He said they have worked with Lafarge Holcim the mother company of Hima cement at the International level that is why they have chosen the Local Company to supply cement in Uganda.

“We are sure Hima cement will supply quality cement because some of their products have been  and are still being used in the construction of major Government Infrastructures projects like Roads, Bridges and power Dams in various parts of the country by contracting the local firm this will have employment multipliers effects  in the country,” Biao said.

Ssemakula noted that the Construction sector being science based sector more Innovations are being innovated in the sector which requires more research if inputs suppliers are to embrace such Innovations in the sector.
