KIGALI, RWANDA - The Ministry of Health in Rwanda has announced it doesn't support condom distribution in secondary schools in an attempt to curb the spread Sexually Transmitted Infections and unwanted pregnancies among the students.
According to the media in Rwanda, the Minister Dr. Agnes Binagwaho released a statement last week saying the Ministry was not in favour of distributing condoms in schools instead the ministry supports reproductive health education.
This comes after a heated debate with one group saying that distributing condoms in secondary schools would help reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancies among the students while another group mainly clergy was against the idea saying 'it promotes immorality' among the young generation.
The Ministry's official position paper which East African Business Week has asked but not received is expected to  garner a lot of support from Rwanda's religious community.
