KAMPALA, UGANDA-Members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) have called for the urgent implementation of the East African Community (EAC) Food Action plan which would among others give guidance to investment projects in the agriculture sector.
"The action plan adopted by Heads of State of the five member states in November last year would also give guidelines for the development of regional policies and legal frameworks in order to enhance the economic development and spur investments in the EAC," said the EALA public relations officer Bobi Odiko.
"Recognizing that attaining food and nutritional security can be ensured through food production and household incomes, the parliamentarians are reiterating the need for speedy implementation of the EAC Food Security Action Plan among other far reaching recommendations, he said in a statement issued after a one day policy dialogue on foreign direct investments in agriculture in Eastern Africa held in Nairobi recently.
