KAMPALA, UGANDA - It was the celebration of Tusker Lager's new look bottle or rather a moment to catch up with some of Tusker project fame's former competitors and well, you guessed Ian Mbugua.
First and foremost, everyone has their own reservations about the tough talking Tusker project fame judge. Some may loathe him; well for others, like Gabriel (TPF) fan think that Tusker Project Fame would be boring without him. "Every time he's about to speak, you can feel the audience waiting with bated breath", says Doe.  Well it's a question of whether your favorite contestant got the wrong side of him or not.
Ian actually told me that he is a very easy to get along with person, that is if you get to know him better. Whatever way you get to know him, is all up to you. First he is a 'difficult' person to deal with, at least that is according to one of the guys who faced his 'wrath'.
But then again there was Davis Ntare, winner of Tusker Project Fame 4, who took the audience through very catchy tunes while at the same time plucking at his guitar.
The vocals were very precise and yes, just that catchy. Davis Ntare recently released his debut single Sheka Sheka recorded by Kenyan producer R-Kay.
His former housemate Steve Nyabwa, also took the audience through a series of his songs before Vampino (Vampino) hit the stage with his usual energetic dance moves.
But the performance of the night goes to Lillian Mbabazi. The former Blu 3 singer showed no signs of rust, more so after being off the Ugandan music scene for long to have her baby. She took the audience through a series of foreign songs, in the process revealing her vocal prowess.
It was only after she sang her latest songs that the audience was moved and many of them started grooving to the Vitamin singer's songs.  
 This was during the launch of the new look Tusker Lager bottle in Kampala recently.
The 'long' neck bottle seems to in vogue as many beers have ditched the old 'euro style' big bottle for this slim and easy to handle bottle. Tusker Lager is no exemption, having had the old euro bottle since it was first brewed in 1922.
Meanwhile, Tusker Lager, the flagship sponsor of 'Tusker Project Fame' is to kick-off the celebration of the launch of its new look bottle with a music extravaganza that will include a reality TV music show and a mega concert dubbed "Tusker All Stars.'
The 'Tusker All Stars' TV show will reunite viewers with eight former Tusker Project Fame contestants competing for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share a stage with music great Usher Raymond and Keri Hilson at the "Tusker All Stars Concert" slated for the Carnivore Grounds on August 20.
All Stars include: Alpha Rwirangira (Rwanda), Bernard Nganga popularly known as 'Ngangalito' and Patricia Kihoro (Kenya), Hemedy Suleiman and Peter Msechu (Tanzania) and Davis Ntare (Uganda).
Last year's Tusker Project Fame show not only included contestants from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda but for the first time, Southern Sudan was also represented in the house.

Young corporate and business personnel turned up in big numbers to gauge Tshila's unique musical vision.
Talk about moguls like Sudhir Ruparelia, honchos like Patrick Bitature and fashion legend Sylvie Owori. Entertainment was part of the agenda and with in no minute revelers had started shaking their bones to the tunes of the multi-lingual Vienna based musician.
A few people from the gathering actually knew who she was. Who is she, is she from South Africa, and is it her first time to perform in Uganda were some of the questions that were asked at the initiation of the performance.
The mainstream radios had found her musical approach strange and unclassifiable but word of mouth soon had her work treasured among connoisseurs. In fact, her world music approach seemed to be appreciated abroad more than at home.
When the MC announced that Tshila was to perform in less than a second, pundits kept their ears on the ground. She chose the moment to sample what she could do with her lyrics.
This was the time to hear Urumi Moyoni (Pain in my heart), Beera Nange, Buli shesi nghola, Namboozo, Ca Suffit live and many more.
It was truly a mouth-watering prospect for a lover of mellow, thoughtful and deeply moving music. She was not doing it alone as her guitar provided the tempo and the cadence as she urged fans to sing along with her.
It was a two-hour spell in which Tshila also performed songs of her 'Sippin' from the Nile,' album that she launched way back in 2009.
By the way no stone was left unturned in the house because even those who could not shake while standing at least had their heads nodding or clapping their hands to the tunes of the guitar.
The show had kicked off on a slow pulse with a few connoisseurs but later on the classy garden city rooftop had crowded.
It was not only English and Luganda but also lyrics in Swahili, French and Lugishu one of the local languages in Uganda. Not that she wanted to be praised by the crowd for knowing a diversity of languages but because she sells her music even outside the country.
"I wanted to make sure I have an impact on the Ugandan music scene because I'm from here," Tshila said.
She explained that wherever she travels, she is introduced as Tshila from Uganda. "It means a lot to me to have a presence here because these are my roots and the music I do is inspired by Uganda." She added.
The appreciation for Tshila's music was confirmed when BBC radio named Tshila as one of the best 20 unsigned artistes anywhere in the world. This prestigious notice was further confirmed by the continued flurry of invites to perform at international cultural festivities that Tshila continued to receive.
This was notwithstanding the lackluster reception she received in Uganda, nearly forcing her to permanently relocate to Vienna, Austria, where she is signed to a small record label, Pep Sounds.
After watching Tshila her Afro fusion jazz music do it live, one could make a distinction between quality and quantity in the music industry; it's simply a rip off.
