After an increase in the generation out put at Nalubaale power station, Umeme, Uganda's Electricity Distribution Company has announced the elimination of emergency day load shedding effective 12 July 2011.
The increased generation came in to bridge the shortfall that was announced by the Uganda Electricity transmission company limited (UETCL) early last week.
Mr Sam Zimbe the General Manager said "permission was sought from the Ministry of Water and Energy to increase the generation output at the Nalubale power station in order to bridge the shortfall gap and it was granted,"
Although emergency load shedding during the night shall continue, UETCL is working together with the power generators in order to reduce the shortfall soon. " the  increased  generation  will be sufficient  to cover  the deficit  that we had  during  the day" said Zimbe.
"As a result  of unchanged  tariffs  amidst  a depreciating  shilling  and  increasing fuel prices , the impact on government  subsidies has reached  unsustainable  levels" said Mutambi , the acting  executive officer  of the Electricity  Regulatory Authority (ERA)  during a press briefing  at ERA offices last week.
Government has decided to revoke  Aggreko's licence of running the 50MW Kiira plant and the 50MW in Kampala not exceeding June 30 2011 while urging engineers to speed up the commissioning of the Bujagali power plant before the end of the year and Tullow Oil to speed up oil production in  the Albertine Region.
The Government may de-commission the diesel generation plants (Jacobsen- Namanve and Electromaxx -Tororo) if these companies fail to embrace the use of crude oil from the Albertine .Although these plants resumed power supply, government has not cleared it subsidies of Sh207 bn ($82.8million).
