Kampala, Uganda-Emirates airlines has rewarded its top Ugandan travel agents for the year 2011.
The awards that were based on substantial contribution to Emirates' business in 2011 doubled as a hand over to the new Country Manager of the airlines in Uganda.
The outgoing Country Manager of Emirates Uganda Jabr Al Azeeby said that the awards were held in commemoration of strong travel agents and their contribution to the airlines business.
"The continued support of travel agents cannot be ignored because they have strongly partnered with us especially with the mushrooming competition in the airlines business," Jabr said.
Jabr commended the strong partnership that the agent community has added to the airlines for the 11 years it has been operating in the country.
Handing over to his successor, Jabr said he leaves Uganda at a time when the industry grows at a faster rate that can be handled by the new Country Manager Khalid Al Zarouni from Cyprus.
"We have come a long way since the first Emirates flight to Uganda in March 2000 from increasing the frequency of our services to opening a new ticketing office at Entebbe Airport, ," said Jabr. "I leave the operations in the very capable hands of my successor, Khalid Al Zarouni; as Emirates looks forward to continuing its successful and strong partnership with Uganda."
Col. Muhozi Kainerugaba also present at the ceremony pledged his support to the new area manager. Muhozi handed over 3 tickets to the lucky winners of the raffle draw.
The prizes that included 1st prize business class return ticket to Dubai with 3 nights at a top 5 star hotel, 2nd prize Business Class return ticket to Dubai and 3rd prize Economy Class to Dubai were won by Africana Travel, Sat Guru Travel and Turama Travel respectively.
"Uganda Travel Bureau has scooped the top performance of this year due to its tremendous support towards the industry," Muhoozi noted.  
Started in 1985 with just two aircrafts, Emirates now spans 114 destinations in 67 countries across six continents, servicing these destinations with fleet of 153 wide-bodied aircraft, which includes 15 A380s, the world's largest passenger aircraft.
