Gulf Air set, now eyes Juba route

KAMPALA, UGANDA- Gulf Air says that it has set its eyes on the launch of the Juba Route in Southern Sudan after successfully re-launching flights last week to Entebbe airport adding it to its growing network.

The Entebbe destination is the airlines' third East African operation with four non-stop weekly flights between Entebbe and Bahrain, while the Juba operation will be its fourth in the EAC countries.

The national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the largest network operator in the Middle East had its inaugural flight GF719 from Bahrain International Airport landing in Entebbe International Airport at 15.45 pm on Monday last week, carrying a high-level delegation that included airline representatives and members of the media from the Middle East, led by the airline's Chief Services Officer Mr. Marcus Bernhardt.

Addressing the media Mr. Marcus Bernhardt said that he was delighted to re-commence services to Entebbe.

"In fact, in the lead up to our inaugural flight, we have working alongside our Ugandan friends developing and building up the relationship between Uganda and Bahrain.

"With the commencement of our services today between Bahrain and Entebbe, we are opening the doors for commercial and tourism opportunities in East Africa, the MENA region and beyond.

"We are confident this new route will be a success for both our passenger and cargo operations, and we look forward to facilitating business and leisure traffic between the two countries and beyond," said Bernhardt.

Gulf Air is well positioned to connect Uganda to several key destinations in the region providing excellent connectivity via Bahrain with seamless and convenient flight schedules to key destinations such as Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Bombay in India or the Far East.

The airline had earlier announced a special promotional initiative "Top Trips" with discounted fares on flights from Entebbe to select GCC and Indian Subcontinent destinations starting from USD200. "We're also offering a double miles promotion for its FFP members valid until February 2012," he stressed.

Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Managing Director, Dr. W. Rama Makuza welcomed Gulf air flights re-launch to during a ceremony that included a water salute in Kampala.

The company will be operating an Airbus A320 in a two-class configuration of 16 seats in Falcon Gold and 120 in Economy with the capacity to carry four tons of freight.

As part of its network strategy to expand into niche markets, Gulf Air started services to 9 new destinations since January 2011 in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
