KAMPALA, UGANDA-The head of the Burundi National Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been elected to head the East African Business Council, East African Business Week understands.
According to a senior official in the Burundian Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Consolata Ndayishimiye was elected last week as the new head.
Mr. Yves Desire Bagabo said that the election took place during the councils’ annual general meeting held in Bujumbura recently. The East African Business Council (EABC), which was established in 1997, is at the forefront of facilitating private sector participation in the integration process of the East African Community (EAC). EABC works closely with East African Community Secretariat, East African Legislative Assembly, governments, regional economic communities, multilateral groups and the business community to improve the region’s trade and investment climate.
Its objective is to facilitate and promote all aspects of private sector development in East Africa, promote an enabling environment for business in East Africa and to coordinate the efforts of the private sector for the promotion of trade and investment in East Africa.
