Kampala, Uganda-Unilever Uganda through its blue band brand has unveiled the second phase of its nutritional campaign to improve the health of children through better diet in the country.
The National Growth Challenge Campaign that was launched at Nakasero Primary School in Kampala targets children of between six and 11 years educates mothers, children and all caretakers on the importance of providing a health diet for optimum nutrition for children.
Unilever Country Customer Marketing Manager, Mr. Mark Kivuna said that the height data being collected from about 100,000 children will be used to calculate the height for age index focusing on sex.
"Campaign results will be used for setting objectives for school nutrition through analysis of the current health situation of children and engage parents on the necessary precautions," Kivuna noted.
Kivuna added that the second phase builds on the latter emphasizing the nutrition message and tracking growth of the children.
Mwine added that Unilever is partnering with different government institutions, development partners and other stakeholders to improve nutrition in the country.
"There are many cases of Obesity, Kwashiorkor and Marasmus in the country all resulting from poor feeding which need to be solved through improved nutrition," Mwine added.
Mr. George Muhangazima a teacher at the school said that many parents do not know what constitutes of a balanced diet yet they have the capacity. "The children will pass on the message to their parents to expose their minds to effectiveness of a balanced diet," Muhangazima said.

I agree that nutrition is something in this country that is in VERY POOR STANDING. The lac of education about the importance of nutrition is one of the LARGER problems in our country. If we could get children at a young age to realize the imprtance of what a healthier life style we would mean for them and there education i think that we would be in a different situation. I also beleive in order to maximise our health we could stand to take supplements to get what we are lacking, The food pyramid says nothing about Vitamins. Even though most of us are lacking some kind of nutrient.
