The body that had earlier in the week said it recorded reduced revenue collection in the telecommunications sector due to the price wars, electricity, cement revenues that fell due to increased investment in capacity expansion at Hima and Tororo and other goods and services due to the high prices charged on them and reduced consumption. It called upon all land lords to comply and assist URA in the collection of the tax.
"The country cannot develop without tax. The doctors, teachers, police and the army remuneration cannot be raised without tax. We shall embark on vigorous collection of rental tax as it's directed to us," said the Uganda Revenue Authority chairman Mr. Gerald Ssendaula during the celebrations to mark 20 years of URA at a ceremony in Kampala.
A rental tax is a charge levied on money received by property owners from tenants in the year.
Ssendaula said with proper collaboration with the Kampala Capital City Authority, local councils, division councils, municipal councils, town councils and district authorities, the authority will ensure that all the rental tax due is collected to improve domestic tax revenue to be at par with the East African Community arrangement.
